The term Malgré-nous ( or 'despite ourselves') refers to the young Alsatians and Mosellans who were drafted by force into the German armies (Wehrmacht and Waffen-SS) during the Second World War, in direct violation of the Armistice of 22 June 1940, and of the International Convention of La Haye. The term is sometimes used to refer to the Alsace-Moselle women also drafted against their will into the general German War effort.
